I have just finished cleaning my new Bushmaster for the first time and reassembled according to the manual.  I am able to perform the first two safety function checks, but on the last one it says, "Hold trigger to the rear, pull charging handle to the rear and release pressure on the trigger with a slow, smooth motion, without hesitations  or stops.  It says "an audible click should be heard, but I cant hear a click."  Any ideas why?

Also, should the charging handle be able to slide back into the receiver when a mag is in and the rifle is cocked?

Thanks in advance!

Ok, maybe I figured out the problem.  Are you supposed to release the charging handle after pulling it back and THEN release the trigger?  When I do this there is only a "snap" and the hammer doesn't fall.

Yes, you should hold the trigger down while retracting and releasing the charging handle.  Then when you release pressure from the trigger, you should feel and hear a "click".

Yea, you need to pull the trigger and HOLD it down.  Cycle the weapon (pull handle back, let it go) while still holding trigger back.  slowly release trigger and hear your 'click'.

Think of it as you are tesing it just like it fires.. Trigger pull... bang.. rifle cycles... trigger release ('click')... ready for next shot.

Hope that helps.

If you have a burst or auto rifle you need to do the additional step of functions checking in that mode too (i.e. if weapon is burst, select burst, pull trigger, cycle weapon THREE times with trigger held back, and release; in auto you just cycle 'a few times'.)
