I am attempting to build my first upper,, I've put together 2 or 3 stripped lowers with LPKs.
I bought a 16" M4 barrel. Can anyone recommend a resonably priced stripped lower? Or can I buy a lower with basically everything but the barrel? I bought one of the Larue 10" handguards that I want to install. Does the upper need to be compatible with the barrel? Regarding the M4 feeder ramps? Thanks in advance |

The stripped upper should match your barrel. i.e., if you have M4 feed ramps on the barrel, you want them on the upper receiver. If you don't have M4 ramps on the barrel, make sure that you don't have them on the upper. But any other combination should work fine.
I usually pay $40-$50 for my stripped uppers. I've used Anderson, Aero Precision, and one or two others. All seem to be about the same, apart from T marks and the actual finish texture and color. Just jump on Slickguns and search for them. Pretty easy to find. Have bought from Primary Arms, Right to Bear (I think), and Schuyler. Haven't had any problems yet. |

Many hate them, but I have used Anderson lowers on 8 builds without issue. ~$55-$65 out the door local here.
Aero is running a blem sale now(omitted the small Aero logo one side ) for $68 (IIRC), they are gtg also. As posted above, M4 ramps on bbl=ramps/no ramps on upper No M4 ramps on barrel= non ramped upper. Good luck. |

I have had okay luck with Anderson, I have build several, i had one that was out of spec. The bolt catch roll pin hole was too close to the receiver, to fix it I had to grind down the bottom of the bolt catch to make it work.
I have built a couple Aero uppers and lowers they have always been good to go, the quality is excellent. |
