Looks like PSA has a sale today on BCGs...
Nickel Boron BCG-$99.99
Premium BCG-$69.99

Is the nickel boron worth the extra $30 while they're both on sale? I'm beginning to pull together parts I will eventually use to build what will likely be my first SBR, but wanted to jump on one of these while they were on sale.

Thanks in advance.

My apologies...I didn't realize this was my first post. I spent a lot of time on here a long time ago, but it was under a school email I no longer can access so I made a new account.

Glad to be back

Nickel Boron coating is easier to clean. Some say it has better lubricity than parkerized finishes, but when the high spots wear down, its coefficient of friction rises.

What you're really want is NP3 finish. Lower coefficient of friction than nickle boron, around ten times the corrosion resistance, and it's impregnated with PTFE (Teflon) so it's even easier to clean and self lubricating as it wears.

In theory.^^^^^

I saw no real advantages to the one I had.

Well lubed phosphate works just fine, imo.

Does this mean not worth the extra $30 in your opinion? Or are you talking the rest of the comments?

Not worth it, imo. I have 6 phosphate finish. Zero issues.

I would go with the park finish. I have a psa premium ar with the nib bcg. It wears well but still needs to be scrubbed so I don't see the advantages.  My other AR'S run NIBX finishes and those are fantastic. Extremely slippery and wiped down with a cloth to almost like new.  The park finish for 69 is tough to beat!

When I was issued an M16 it was not Boron, I own 15 AR 15 rifles and they are not nickle Boron and they all run just fine with the proper lubrication, I have two of those $69 BCG's in the mail today!

Go parkerized/premium bcg from PSA and save the dime for a scraper tool, ie CatM4 tool or otis bone, to remove carbon (slicker than greased shit)

To me it's not worth the extra $30. I've used nothing but phosphate coated BCGs in every AR I've ever owned, some of them are suppressed, and have never had a problem with them. As a matter of fact I ordered one of the $69.99 blems from PSA this afternoon. I think that will be my third or fourth PSA BCG.

Thank you kindly for all the helpful replies. I just placed the order for the premium, my first piece of what will hopefully be a beautiful build.

While we're on the topic of saving money by not buying needlessly expensive shit, any recommendations for a lower parts kit?

LPK'S are pretty standard. If your still up primary arms has the basic LPK from anderson on sale for 29.99.

Everything I have seen tells me Nickel Boron is a shiny gimmick. I have also seen increased stoppages with NiB parts as, if I remember correctly, their friction coefficient changes as NiB parts heat up, increasing friction. The hotter the gun the worse they run. Keep the $30 and buy more ammo.
