I want to replace the rail on my AR the problem I have is I got a 14 inch barrel and had the muzzle tapped and welded. now I cant take off the gas block via take off the barrel nut. it has a barrel nut like the one pictured. how can I tell if a rail is compatible with it (I'm ordering off the internet) https://www.midwayusa.com/product/748354/yankee-hilll-machine-free-float-tube-handguard-barrel-nut-aluminum-matte |

You're going to have to bite the bullet. Even if you find a rail to use that nut it isn't going to be slim.
You could sell that upper and get something different. Buy a rail and have a shop like ADCO swap everything. They usually destroy the muzzle device to remove it so unless it's an A2 style I'd grind the weld out and remove the device if possible. You can then finish disassembly from there. Most likely you'd also save a disassembly fee. Another option you may consider is 16" barrel next time. That solves the problem you're now facing if you have the tools to finish the job. |

If you have a quad rail this will be slimmer.
