I hardly ever hear of single shot AR's (probably for good reasons) so I thought I'd share this build.

My son is 11 and has trouble holding up my deer rifles, let alone aiming through the scopes to shoot accurately.  He can handle an AR pretty well but they aren't legal to hunt with in PA.  I had this TM 80% single shot lower on the shelf in my gun store for a good while and nobody had even looked at it, so I decided to build him a legal deer rifle for the short time that he'll need it.  Afterwards we can use it for a .50 build or something.

Naturally a customer had bought my last TM jig a couple days before I decided to do this.  I wanted to get it done asap but definitely needed a jig.  So I looked at what I had on hand - several of the Polymer80 lower kits that include an 80% lower, jig, and even the tooling.  The shape of the Polymer80 is different so I did some creative dremeling and got my forged aluminum lower to fit inside.  I put the jig with lower into the vice on my 9x20 mill and even used the end mill that came with the kit to carve out the fcg pocket.  Worked like a charm.  Believe it or not this is my first 80% AR - I've built receivers for AK's, smg's, and even MP44's for years but never got around to messing with an unfinished AR receiver.

We test fired it with the keymod upper but I want to have a stainless barrel on for winter/rain use.  We've switched to a mid length upper with standard front sight.  If it turns out to be problematic I'll order a keymod upper with SS barrel.  So far the little guy likes it, but I wish it had a bho for easier loading.

I'll have to search for the pictures of the jig so they won't be shown right away.

build one with a side charger? It may make it easier for him to load

A side charger is a really good idea!

Verry cool !
What caliber will he hunt deer  with?
And how much do your think it will weigh when it's in its deer hunting platform?
