Hi AR15.com members,
I just recently joined AR15.com. I've built my own AR 15 recently, and I enjoyed building so much, I got curious on what it would take to start up a firearm manufacturing/retail company. What would be the best source to find out market information in the Dallas area? |

IMHO. The market is so saturated with parts and manufacturers that, I think, it would be better to be a retailer of parts. Market is really too saturated for that. Pre 2012 was when it would have been most profitable. Margins on everything have been knocked through the floor so people cam remain competitive with Palmetto State Armory and companies like them. Really not much room for anyone who isn't already in the market unless you provide something others don't. |

There are a lot of gun shops in Dallas: http://www.yellowpages.com/dallas-tx/gun-shop You might think of joining a gun club and offering your services to people who are interested in the platform. Assemble kits they purchase or something like that. To sell firearms (retail) you would need to be an FFL. To put guns together and sell, you would be considered a manufacturer and have to pay $2k a year to do so. Putting an AR together for someone that already purchased it doesn't require anything. If you paint it for them or modify it in any substantial way, then you would also be considered a manufacturer, though. |
