I know there are some good muzzle devices that reduce recoil and hide the flash.  Seems to me most go for $40-very expensive.  Is there anything wrong with using cheaper EBay muzzle devices.  Some look similar to their expensive counterparts.  I don't really need to have a device that reduced recoil or diverts a flash but that would be great.  Basically Im looking for something that looks nice and doesn't suck down the road.  Anyone have sucess with an Ebay bought muzzle device?   How I portant is it to get quality muzzle device?  Could a cheap ebay muzzle device still be quality?

I did post recently asking a similar question about ebay rails.  Some said cheaper metals were used or less quality fitting.  But some said there are gems out there hidden and had no problem saving some money on similar items.

You could find a gem, but you really don't know what you're getting. If you get lucky, good on you, but if you're that price sensitive, I'd think the high chance of buying airsoft junk or plastic would turn you off it, rather than draw you to it.

Pretty much this for the plastic/airsoft shit. Buy from a dealer here on ARFCOM and stay happy or buy cheap and just expect it to not last.

$40 is not very expensive. $75+ is expensive, i.e. Lantac Dragon muzzle brake for $120+

I don't have proof, but I'd be willing to bet $100 that much of the generic "eBay" muzzle devices are either pot metal or made for airsoft.

Spend $10 on a plain A2 flash hider, still works great for most people;  ditched many of the aftermarket muzzle devices I had after the appeal faded away and switched 90% of my ARs back to A2 flash hiders. YMMV

It just seems like there's too much pressure at the muzzle to trust something cheap. I'd stick with an A2.

Just one other point to consider on cheap ebay junk: It's most likely imported.

Not usually a concern on a home grown AR, but just be aware that 922r could apply if this were something like an MR556 or other rifle that already includes foreign parts. I just thought I should add that cautionary note.

I don't use fancy Muzzle Devices, I just use standard A2 devices on all of my rifles, they work, they look okay and they don't break, in addition they are inexpensive.  The last two rifles I built, I just put thread protectors on and have no problem at all.

I have experience with two titanium eBay muzzle brakes from China. I bought them because VG6 no longer sells the titanium Epsilon. I bought it from muzzkebrakeplanet and haven't looked back. Two of them function perfectly, aligned perfectly, pin and welded perfectly, and shoot beautifully. The machining was great too. I did not think they were going to work as intended. I paid $90 for each (you get what you pay for).

As for other muzzle devices from eBay or other seller's, I couldn't offer my opinion. I think eBay is a hit or miss for these things. I can only attest to the username above (for titanium) being that it's the only thing I've bought from them. With that said, it's very good quality and I'm more than happy.

Other people might have bad experiences though.

The standard A2 is what you seek OP, the A2 is perfect balance to which others are judged. It's like the Colt of muzzle devices and they are pleniful and cheap.

The only ARs I use anything other than an A2 are my AR pistols which all have linear comps.

The problem with ebay is that there is such variation with quality.  If you do well 80% of the time and it sucks 20% of the time then you have had to spend a lot of time either getting satisfaction from the seller or eating the cost.
That gets old, fast.
I find that is a poor trade off and choose to support known providers, many of who are supporters of this site.
Here is an A2 flash suppressor from a reputable company.  Just one example. You can start with a basic flash suppressor, and then unscrew it and put on another as you go through this fun learning process.  Eezy-Peezy.  Just make sure you have a barrel vise, something similar to this.  This is just an example.  google AR15 barrel vise and drive around.

A lot (maybe all) of airsoft muzzle threads are 14mm.

When I need a cheap A2, I usually get a Roush (amazon) one. They are super cheap (like $8 delivered or something... and with crush washer), made in USA, and have a nice black oxide finish (I hate Park and wind up painting the park ones anyway, so that saves me the trouble). The only slight issue I have with the Roush ones are the flats never seem to line up perfectly vertical (always seem to be like 10 and 4 o'clock). Other than that.. no issues and I'll keep using them when I need one but don't want to pay shipping for just an A2.

Good options. Thanks.
You might want to try more torgue or different crush washers.

Say goodbye to that.  Amazon went anti-AR15 on us.  One more reason I'm leaning toward ebay.

I'm also wanting a stainless steel muzzle device.  They have stainless A2s on eBay yet none of our vendors have them. Also the other stainless device I was looking at is sold by one of our vendors for about twice with shipping compared to multiple ebay vendors.

Some of you folks, don't know how to work a search engine.!

I put this one from Rousch on my recent build:

Foxhole FH

I like it a lot, gives a nice clean look.

I'm sorry, I meant that they would "time" correctly, but the wrench flats were not machined in perfectly where they should be (on a mil spec A2, it times with the flats perfectly vertical at 9 and 3 o'clock).

Yup Amazon went girly on us.  Sucks.

I did just order this from ebay.  Hope it works well. I'll keep you informed what I think.  There was a similar muzzle device on Palmetto for $20 more. But I didn't want to spend $20 extra for a very similar product.

I've bought from 2-3 different ebayers, one is a machinist that custom makes what ever I want, other two are machine shops that offer several styles.  They cost about $70 but I need the Lavang type for my SBR's/pistols.  $70 is cheap for custom SS muzzle devises.  If it was a plain carbine/rifle the A2 works great.

Do a search for user sastacticalbrakes on ebay, he builds custom brakes and he has built me a number of them. Great guy to deal with and a really good machinist I have used him for a number of projects other than muzzle brakes and have been very happy with the results as well.

I've bought and used the Rousch Sports muzzle brakes on my last two builds. both installed without issue, and both have performed well with no issues. One is on my 10.5" AR 5.56 pistol build, and the last is on my 16" AR .300 AAC Blk build.  If I were building another, I'd have no problem using them again.
