I was getting nervous with the elections coming up. I decided to build my first AR. All the parts are ordered. It ended up costing more than I thought. Initially I was looking at around $800 for the build. But those marketers are slick and I ended up spending $1099. Thank god I have some friends with all the tools needed to put this together.

Update:
So I have my total cost figured out. I started thinking I would build something for around $800. But the total for AR15 parts came to $1125.86. Now I have all the parts and my buddy with the tools is out of town for a week. So I said, screw it, and ordered most of the tools I would need. Some I really didn't need but I had the Credit Card out and hit purchase. My dad has a vise that I can use any time so no price for a vise listed. ----------------------- AR15 build: Lower parts kit: ($40.00 DPMS bought at camp perry) Bravo Company (Buffer *H*, spring and buffer tube $75.90) lower reciever (Aero Precision from ADCO.firearms $84.73) Triger Guard (DPMS MidwayUSA $13.00) AR15 Assembled Upper Receiver - Anodized Black (Aero Precision *BLEM* on sale $82.84) Rock River Bolt carrier group (ADCO.firearms $105.00) (2) Lancer Systems L5 AWM Advanced Warfighter Magazine, 30 rd ($41.00 MidwayUSA) Ballistic Advantage 16" 5.56 BA Hanson Mid Barrel w/ Lo Pro $184.00 BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle MOD5 Small Latch AR-15 $49.95 VG6 Precision Delta 556 Muzzle Device $51.99 Aero Precision Stainless Steel Gas Tubes, Size:Mid-Length $15.99 Aero Precision AR15 15" Quantum M-LOK Handguard - FDE Cerakote (w/ BAR Barrel Nut) $134.99 Magpul M-Lock Hand Stop Kit $26.49 B5 Systems BRAVO 3-Piece Furniture Kit - FDE $79.99 Aero Precision AR15 Flip-Up Sight Set $139.99 AR parts : $1125.86 (+) Vortex Strike Eagle Scope, $265.00 (+) Aero Precision SPR scope mount, $80.74 TOTAL = $1470.74 Tinypic

Looks like a solid list. Welcome to the sickness. Post pics when it's done Sickness is upon me. I keep looking at all these labor day sales. Ordered 1000 rounds of ammo. Also bought two 100 packs of federal 223 at Walmart today. MidwayUSA order Scheduled Delivery: Wednesday, 09/07/2016. |
| I built my first in 1989. Parts came in slightly under $400, not including tools. Upper & lower were among the best you could get stripped back then (PWA), but all the parts that were not USGI surplus were crap. Still, a blast to build it and see it work at the range (and actually it did run, with Chinese ammo and beat up old USGI surplus mags from gun shows and handguards with the heat shields coming loose and all). I wish you the same joy! |

I wish you the same joy! I think I could have spent around $700 if I really tried. But I did get impatient and bought most of my stuff before the labor day sales. Next AR I will wait for more sale prices. Put my bench vise (+ $30.00 to the total price) on some particle board and "C" clamped the far end. Getting ready for tomorrows delivery.

Finished up today. Had a couple problems. Had to take the hand guard off and re-torque the barrel nut because I only torqued it to 28 lbs and I though i had done 80. I was reading the torque wrench wrong. Ended up taking 2 shims and 55 lbs/torque to time the gas tub.
Also the set screw for the B5 systems trigger guard didn't work. I tried a 1/16 allen wrench but it was to big. I ended up using a random screw I found that fit. I believe it is a brass screw. I will have to replace it with something stronger. Not sure where I will end up keeping with the magpul hand stop. Links seem to be working better than posting direct pics. Completed AR15 Brass screw stands out Trigger guard |

Hey another Buckeye with BRD!
Nice parts list... could have saved a few $$$ here and there but you didn't get burned too bad. Where in OH are you, if in the NW part of the State, I can get you local sources for your next build a tad cheaper... and there WILL be a next build. lol looks good, go shoot!!! eta: spelling |

Hey another Buckeye with BRD! Lol. I had to look up B>R>D. Blacus Rifulus = Black Rifle :) I am in Toledo, Ohio. Went up to Temperance, Southern Michigan Sportsman's Club yesterday with a couple of friends. I realized I don't know much about shooting with peep sites. 1st photo is at 25 yards because I wasn't even on paper at 50 yards. Main reason is I wasn't using the sites correctly. I wasn't even using the rear site. At 25 yards I was low and left. At this point I was using the front site and I didn't understand at the time how to use the rear site. 25 yards After some instruction on proper use of the sites. Putting the front post in the center of the rear circle site... doh! at 50 yards I was high and left 50 yards Now I am getting it. Proper site picture. Shots "1" and "2", I was sitting on my leg. After a couple more tips from my buddies. Sit with feet flat on the floor... Shots 3,4,5,6 came together nicely. 50 yards, proper site picture, feet flat shooting from bench

Blacus Rifulus = Black Rifle :) I am in Toledo, Ohio. lol BRD is one of those ailments that most of us don't mind having, as long as the other bills get paid first of course. Hey NW Ohio! We've got plenty of FFLs/Stores in our region (I'm in Lima). I just found a new FFL close to me (1.2 miles from my house) that sells Aero Precision forged aluminum lowers for $75.00. I pay for them online and go pick them up. He did NOT add OH tax nor charge me for a transfer fee... so those lowers were cheaper for me than PSA or Anderson Manufacturing ($49.95) BLEM lowers (plus shipping and transfer fees). Your shooting is improving! What ammo were you using? Have you tried any steel cased ammo through your new rifle yet (Tula ammo is known as being a tad underpowered compared to the other economy stuff) |

Have you tried any steel cased ammo through your new rifle yet (Tula ammo is known as being a tad underpowered compared to the other economy stuff) That was federal from Walmart. Just received 1000 rounds from Freedom Munitions. It was 31 cents a round with free delivery. Took about 14 days to get it. The cheapest I found so far was a $30 dollar transfer fee at a local retailer. One of my friends had a falling out with his FFL hook-up. So, I don't have that FFL hook-up yet. |
