I installed 2 AAC 51 tooth flash hiders on a couple of builds. I noticed that the rocksett that came with it was a thick substance almost gel like. Is that the way they all come?

Rocksett is generally the same consistency as normal clear super glues (not the "gel" type).
If it has gotten thick, it has started to evaporate.

It will also separate.  You can stir it back up and still use it.  I have a really old bottle.

It's In a mini plastic tube that came with the FH.

My 2oz bottle that is about 6 months old has no separation and is really thin.

The two brand new little packets I've used from Silencer Co have been gel like. So far so good on my builds...

Some of the new stuff is quite a bit thicker than it used to be, I believe they are using a different base for the newer products

FWIW, I haven't been using rocksett on my 51T FHs and haven't had any problems with them coming loose. I just torque the FHs down.

Rocksett is optional. If you're actually using the flash hider as a suppressor mount, then use it. If not, then it's not completely necessary.

I avoid Rocksett at all costs if possible these days, I have found in most instances, it is really not needed if you pay attention to what you are doing.

I've had a lot of rounds downrange with suppressors mounted without rocksett.

I'm sure you do. I'd use it on a suppressed application, myself. Can't hurt. Nothing wrong with a little extra insurance. Suppressors build and hold a LOT of heat and I've had many things loosen when exposed to prolonged high temperatures. I'd hate to destroy a suppressor because I was too lazy to follow the manufacturer's instructions.

If you don't use the rocksett do you use a crush washer with the aac hider?

No crush washer, may not seat flush and cause baffle strikes. Just use rocksett

No crush washer. I know they don't need to be timed, but I used shims to time my 51T Blackout, anyway, since it has an AAC logo at the 12:00 position, and what looks like a lot number at the 6:00 position. Looks more "finished" this way.
