Looking for suggestions for a vise block for my AR lowers for cleaning, building, etc. Have seen a lot of mixed reviews online.

Wheeler clamshell for most tasks although I do still use a DPMS claw now and then for thing like installing sights and lining up hand guards.

Just for the lower? Dude, they're really all the same. It's a chunk of plastic that goes into the magwell and that's pretty much it. There is literally nothing special about a lower block. Just get the cheapest one you can find, and call it a day. Hell, if you feel like it, you could carve one from a 2x4.

Uppers is where people get picky, and that is why all of the previous responses are about upper receiver blocks. You caught everyone off guard by asking what is essentially a non-question.

I just chuck a marked "Don't Use" deadlined magazine in the vise.  Good use for a bad magazine besides a target.

Yes. I bought the upper and lower block combo for $20 or so if I recall.

Go to Squirreldaddy.com. They have one for ten bucks or use a beat up mag as the guy above said.

That's what I use. Works great. I also use a PSA clamshell for uppers (which also works great). Now I have a BevBloc that I've never found a need for.

I removed the spring and follower from an old magazine and then filled the body with expanding foam. It has kept that old magazine from crushing in the vise. Works perfectly for holding lowers for work.
