Hi all,

I am building my first AR and am working on the lower receiver. It is by PSA and I went with Magpul furniture. I installed the pistol grip and it has a little bit of play and I was wondering if this is normal?

Thanks

You either don't have the screw tightened down all the way or you may need to put a washer under it.

If it is the case that you do not have the screw tight enough- Remove
the screw and put a drop of gun oil or grease on the threads.

Re-install
and tighten. With grip facing up, holding the assembly by the receiver, tap the bottom of the grip with a
soft mallet or chunk of heavy wood. Re-tighten screw and repeat if
necessary. Sometimes the plastic to metal marriage has to be nudged a bit.

First double and triple check you are not cross threading.  The angles can be deceiving to first timers.

If that is not the case, most receivers though drilled through, are not threaded all the way through.  Longer screws will bottom out at the end of the threads in the receiver before the grip is tight.  Three easy ways to fix in order of easiest to, well not the hardest, but not everyone has all the tools readily available.

1., add a washer between the screw and the grip
2. find a shorter screw
2. use a 1/4-28 tap to run the threads all the way through the receiver
3. shorten the screw

I prefer to tap the hole all the way through, but that's just my preference.
Good luck !

Get a 1/4-28x3/4 Allen head bolt.  Problem solved.
