Long story short, I'm at 0 on ARs right now excepting a single SBR'd lower. I'm having trouble deciding which direction to go with the build, criteria:
5.56 Cost isn't an issue, I'll just space out the build time. No suppressor. Will be my single AR. Astigmatism that limits the utility of RDS for me. I've been stuck between: BCM 11.5" BCM 12.5 OR building a 12.5" with a Centurion bbl and a Geissele MK8 9.5" rail BCM 14.5" middy Optic will likely be a TA33 due to my astigmatism, I've run the #'s and I can make any of the three work well enough with the BDC. Since I"m not going to use a can I've outed the 10.5. I'm kinda leaning towards the 12.5 as a good middle of the road option due to a little better velocity and better powder burn while still remaining compact. |

11.5" with suppressor, 14.5" without.
Also, take a look at a Primary Arms 2.5x prism scope, it works almost as well as a red dot but provides a little magnification and better clarity for our older eyes. Its only weakness is its short eye relief, but its manageable. |
| personally I don't see the point in doing a 14.5 build if you've already decided to do a form 1. Sure you can always have a 14.5 laying around, but if that is your main upper you might as well just buy a perm welded upper. saves an extra 200 and some wait time. |

At what range are you planning to shoot this thing?
14.5" is stupid if you've already SBR'd the lower. Just doesn't make sense. Your first short upper midas whale actually be, well, short. I can see getting a 14.5" upper down the road, but nobody SBRs a lower so they can put a 14.5" upper on it. I only have one 5.56 SBR upper and it's 10.5". However, if you want me to make a suggestion from the choices you've provided it would be 11.5". You might be giving up a little velocity/trajectory, but unless you spend a lot of time shooting 200+ yards I think 11.5" will be a great length. |
