After breaking down my gun, I found this spring on the floor. Did it come from my gun? Everything seems to be functioning properly.

A. What gun? yes I understand this is an AR 15 forum but that don't mean shit
B. Most AR springs do not have a curve to them.
C. Details man, it is all in the detail.

The type of gun is an ar15. I took the upper off, removed the charging handle and bcg, then reinstalled. I then noticed the spring on the floor by my feet, which has me inclined to believe that it came out of the gun. Although it is possible that the spring came from something else. Thanks for the reply.

Only thing I can think of would be charging handle or ejector.

I've never had a charging handle apart (so that is a total guess) and the only spring that appears to be roughly that size would be on the ejector. Check the bolt face.

Did your buffer detent and spring fall out?

There's not a lot springs in an AR, just go through and make sure they're all there.

The only thing it could be from is the charging handle.  I have never taken one part or had one fall apart to know what the spring looks like.

Buffer detent spring is way bigger than that. Also the AR has a lot more springs than you think.

Ejector

Extractor

Charging handle

Take down pin

Pivot pin

Selector

Hammer

Trigger

Disconnector

Mag release

Forward assist

Forward assist pivot arm

Buffer detent

Bolt catch

Spring inside trigger guard

Buffer

Spring inside stock release

Delta ring

Dust cover

Front sight post

Multiple springs in the rear sight of an A2 upper

Did I miss any?

It came out of the latch on the charging handle, check it out I bet its not working correctly.

Or it was on the floor from something else.

I will bet you and all the others repliers a bottle Of Asbach Uralt  brandy that spring did not come from an AR 15. No piling on, only timestamps between my first and second posts need apply.

This was my exact thought, but the charging handle is working flawlessly.

As much as I'd like to lay claim to that brandy, it ain't gonna happen. No way that  is from an AR (unless part of some add-on accessory) The closest spring to that size is the buffer retainer spring and that is bigger than the one pictured.

It looks like a broken piece of the takedown or pivot pin detent springs.  I've seen the smashed index the plate and castle nut, but have yet to see one break during install.  I'm sure it could happen.

You need to give length, diameter, and coil count (and sometimes wire size).
It does not look like any of my CH latch springs, they have twice that many coils.

Size, color, length. Not from an AR15.

Do you have QD mounts?

Definitely not from the CH.  It's much larger than that.

To give you an idea the spring diameter is about 2x the thickness of the latch.

That spring is not off of any standard AR assembly.

first it hits the ceiling then the wall and another wall then the floor and ends up under the biggest immovable object with the least clearance underneath it.
