first time build...finished my lower   would this be a good choice for a barrel... I want 1:8 16 mid length.   or should I look at something else...thanks for any feedback.

Nothing at all wrong with the BCM, solid products for sure, but if you don't have an absolute need for the BCM name or stainless barrel, I would look at a Green Mountain.

Green Mountain 16" mid-length 4150 chrome lined 1:8

They also have it in stainless if you prefer.

That barrel would be just fine. BCM makes quality products.

I've got one of the Rainier Arms Select Series MEDCON barrels which have comparable specs to that BCM. I believe it to be a great value and it shoots really well.

What are your goals? How do you want to use the firearm?
$300 is not cheap for a barrel and there are a lot of good options out there.

1/8 with mid gas is a good choice for 16" barrel IMO.
