I think I've seen .223 wylde barrels in 1:9 but carbine length.  Just no mid length.  Might just have to go with 1:8 huh?

Rainier Arms
Black Hole Weaponry (they make some of the Rainier barrels)
Green Mountain Rifle Barrels
White Oak Armament
Maybe Faxon.

If it isn't on their website, just ask and they will probably do it (for a cost of course)

But as others have said, when you start getting to the custom barrels or Wylde chamber, most will recommend 1/7 twist as you can stabilize the heavier bullets.  Obviously that twist rate will work with lighter weight barrels.

If someone only uses 55 gr bullets would it be better to go 1:7 or 1:8?

On 55 grain only, 1 in 9 is honestly optimal, 1 in 8 is fine, and 1 in 7 is somewhat over stabilized.  This is purely based on accuracy.   That's one reason the military has moved to 62 and 75 grain projectiles, because of the 1 in 7 twist over stabilizing 55 grain, which hurts fine accuracy and wounding dynamics.  If they could have stuck with 55 grain they would have, since it's actually much cheaper on their scale, but they weren't going to rebarrel everything to go  to something they poo-poo'd earlier.

I have just bought a Black Hole Weaponry Barrel, it has polygonal rifling in 1-8 twist and have read it shoots 55g just fine.
I got the 18" midlength barrel.  but they have it in 16" ( or can make you one)
it was supposed to be delivered on saturday, but fedex never showed up, and now they are supposed to deliver it today.
Polygonal rifling is more accurate and gives higher velocities, and easier to clean.

Wilson Combat has something really close.  They even do the chamber, just not on this particular barrel, so maybe a phone call would get it?

Everything BUT the chamber -

I'm sure that would be one heck of a barrel for 55 grain pills.

Thanks for the feedback.  Might have to go with something like this:

Any thoughts on a barrel like this that's 1:9 but carbine length gas?

You keep moving the goalposts.

Most of the better barrels are going to be 7 twist or 8 twist.
Most of the stainless Wylde barrels are going to be 8 twist.

Why not just get a 16" Wylde mid 8 twist and be done ?

^^^^That's what I was trying to establish. Thank you!
