I ordered my Upper and lower CMT Receiver I have looked through a lot of Utube video's but some of them are years old and not all of them seem to be reliable. I have also tried reading as much as I can and I am still left with questions. At this point, I am going to target what I believe are the two most important remaining choices. The barrel and the Bolt Carrier group. Bolt carrier Group - I was looking for a Nickel Boron finish from a U-tube video but I think it is possibly outdated. I have seen a few with it but I am also seeing mention of Titanium along with other process's and materials. What should I really be looking for as well as some recommendations? Barrel - OK lost here. There are so many options, I guess I am asking the same questions here. I need some intelligent direction Thanks in advance :) |

AIM Surplus has a popular Black Nitride BCG that I'v been seeing a lot of people use lately for $90 - shipped. I recommend PSA NiB BCG, if you want a nickle boron BCG. I'v shot over 1000 rounds with mine and haven't seen any flaking or weird cloud discoloring.
As for the barrel, you first have to decide what length you want, price range, and finish. |

A little info on Bolt Carrier Coatings/Treatments.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFSetd-R6WE You have to weight cost versus practical benefit. Parkerizing has worked for decades. Make your own evaluation. As far as barrel type/profile and coating/treatment. what is your intended use and what features would be desirable for you? A common 4140 steel unlined barrel in your desired length will serve at least 95% of the shooting population for general use. 4150 steel with Chrome lining or Melontie/Nitride treatment will add strength, longer barrel life, corrosion resistance, ease of cleaning and better handling of sustained fire. I personally opt for barrel lining or treatment just to have the better quality and barrel life. If you purchase during sales you get a lot of value for very little or no increase in cost. ETA...The best deal on the market for chrome lined 4150 barreled uppers is Palmetto State Armory. The FN 4150 barrels are true military contract spec produced by a military contractor. |
