I am close to completing my first total build. (First one was attaching an assembled upper to a lower.)
I have test fit my flash hider, and it looks like it will come up perfect without a crush washer once I get it tightened up.
So do I really need the crush washer? I would apply blue Loc-Tite if I don't use the crush washer.
Advice?

Thanks

I would use a crush washer if it were my AR because it's easier to remove the muzle device should you need to do that in the future rather than mess with Loctite removal. Plus with crush washer it's a more secure attachment. Hand tight with or without isn't near the torque needed to keep the muzzle device in place. Do what you wish.

Honestly, I wouldn't have even test fit it without a washer. Yes, use a washer.

Use a washer for sure. The thing about a crush washer is it should crush enough for you to line it up how you want.

I was kind of thinking that way. I have the washer, might as well use it.
Thanks

bob:  You can go either way, IMO.  As the others pointed out the crush washer is the superior solution, however, flash hiders that double as suppressor mounts, like my AAC Blackout, typically specify Rocksett instead of a washer.  In my case, I used blue Loctite so the Blackout FH can be easily removed for cleaning the crown.  The thread locker deteriorates slightly over time from the heat, but never loses its grip.

When crush washers are in order, my method is to crank down the MD with a wrench for about 10 degrees or so,  tight enough to keep it from coming off and no more.  If you can't get it oriented the way you want it within that range, just sand off a few thousandths from the bottom of the washer. - CW
