I finally finished my build that I started planning in September. It was a ton of fun building it, and I'm sure will be more fun when I get it to the range. It was a learning experience planning and building it, and it was not without some mistakes along the way, a cosmetic blemish here and there when assembling, but it seems to function great. I snagged a great deal on the complete upper with BCG from PSA. The wait for PSA stuff is definitely worth it. My goal was to keep it simple, but also get quality parts such as the FN CHF barrel and the 7075 buffer tube. The total cost of the build itself was around $470...not too bad. :D

I just need a few more things here and there. I still need a bag or case for it, an O ring for the upper receiver lug, and some fuzzy side velco strips to stick under the stock to keep it from wobbling.

Anyway here are the photos as well as the spreadsheet I made keeping track of all the costs:

Welcome to the disease... I've stopped keeping track of how much I've spent on parts.  That's überdetailed.

Haha, yeah. I'm very OCD about keeping tracking of parts and costs. I do the same thing with car maintenance and even computer parts for new builds.

Very Well Done. Simple. Clean. Classic!

I would call that a "WIN"

Looks great.  I like your spread sheet.  I tell people it can be done but you have it in black and white.

Great job.

That carry handle is a complete piece of crap. Other than that - good build...

In what way? This is my first rifle, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

Gathering parts? It took about 4 months. A significant amount of time was just waiting for PSA to ship them. haha

I finally got a chance to take it out to the range the other day. It functioned flawlessly. I ran about 200 rounds through it with a variety of ammo. Samson (IMI), Federal XM193, and PMC all worked great.

I only had a slight issue, if it is one at all. It seems that my front sight is slightly canted to the right. I thought it might have been an illusion and since I'm a complete novice when it comes to rifles so I would hold my judgement until after I tested it. I had to adjust my rear sight pretty far to the right (about 20 clicks from right to left) to compensate for it. It was shooting about 3 inches to the left at 25 yards until I adjusted it. Is this normal? Otherwise it was great and the elevation was spot on. I didn't have to adjust the front post height at all.

It doesn't even utilize the correct attachment method.  And it could just be your photos, but it looks like it has a bunch of body filler poorly slapped on before it was painted shoddily.

Thanks for the information. Since I am still new at this, I took the advice of FlDiveCop71 and yours to heart. I returned the carry handle (actually just got a refund and kept the item since the seller didn't respond to me or Rakuten where I bought it from, but that's another story). I was having some issues with it, mainly the clicks on the windage knob were practically non-existent, and it wasn't holding zero. Because of that I am unsure if my windage adjustment problems were because of the front sight of the rear.

That said, I suppose am in the market for a new rear sight, not necessarily a carry handle this time...any suggestions?

Check out the magpul flip-up rear sights. The polymer ones are widely used and are both durable and cost efficient. I hear the Pro model is a step up in quality for a bit more coin. Not being fixed will allow the future possibility of adding an optic.

DD 1.5 rear, Troy fixed rear battle sight, MATECH flip-up are all solid, tough-to-kill rear sights.  If you're into the precision thing, Fulton Armory has some nice options.
