So Im building my first AR15 and have most of it planned out, its a budget build but i feel i still have quality parts.

- Aero Precision Titanium Cerakote upper/lower matched set
- Aero LPK and UPK
- Aero Handguard, 7" or 9".
- Magpul CTR stock ( havent bought a buffer tube yet )
- Adams Arms XLP Piston kit carbine length
- 4.5 JP Trigger springs ( will be polishing the aero trigger as well )
- Phase 5 Tactical Tac Latch, V2 Low Pro Bolt Release, Winter Trigger guard.
- Mag well grip ( brand undecided ).

Havent decided on optics yet but most likely will be a red dot of some sort.

My main thing is barrel choice, Im considering the Del Ton Hbar 16" or a DPMS chrome lined Hbar but then wondering if i  should go lightweight instead. It will be a plinker mostly and will proly rarely see anything over 200 yards if ever. Im worried if i do a few mag dumps if it will get hot to the point of hurting the barrel. I dont want to dump 90 rounds and need a new barrel. Was also looking at an M4 profile stainless barrel or Del Tom chrome lined lightweight. All barrel choices are from JSE Surplus with a 1:9 Twist.

What do you guys think and recommend for the barrel.

You aren't going to hurt a LW barrel, and certainly not with 90 rounds of semi auto.

Why the piston kit?  Forego that, and get one of the Aero barrels to go with the Aero parts.

All Aero has that i would consider is a M4 CMV 16" barrel at a mid-length gas system.

I love piston rifles and the ideas behind them with the cleaner chamber, seemingly leading to being more reliable, Adams Arms has great reviews out there from what ive seen and theres no real negatives with a piston. The piston build is the main thing im building this for. If i wasnt going piston i would go to a 7.62x39 build.

Have you looked at how the piston kit works?

If you want an Adams piston gun, buy one of their uppers. Instead of relying on an o-ring drop in adaptation of the gas hole, the upper is actually made for their piston system. I believe they sell stripped uppers (not exactly cheap). I like to do my own assembly, but this is the one area where I'd buy a complete upper.

Or I'd just build a DI, skip the piston kit, and spend that money on a Geissele trigger or a better optic. I used to be all about piston guns thinking that they were worth the extra weight and expense for the reliability. The truth is, DI guns are reliable enough for 99.9% of circumstances. And those circumstances where they are not, are not common.

So lets say i went with the Aero Nickel boron polished BCG and the stainless M4 barrel.

How would that combo do ?

Was thinking about something like this for optics. I dont need much for a plinker.

Barska is for airsoft.

If you want a prism scope, get a Primary Arms or the Vortex one.

The Vortex one is only 3x, but it has a nice "Acog-ish" type reticle.

I agree about foregoing the "piston" conversion. I have built 8 normal DI gas system rifles and they have been 100% reliable.

If I was building another I would go 16" barrel in mid-length gas. Very smooth shooting. I use exclusively Del-Ton barrels.  I've used 16" M4 carbine, LW mid-length and 20" HBAR. All are surprisingly accurate. I have no experience with Aero. I would bet their Barrel is fine quality.

Barska is Crap! I just installed the Vortex Spitfire 3x Prism scopes in 2 of my rifles. You do have to set it farther back then a reddot. I am Very impressed with these scopes. Lifetime warranty no matter what happens to it. If you run a A2 FSB you will see the ears of front sight. That's why I installed the Midwest Industries Gen2 SS 12" rails on both my scoped rifles

There are no real negatives?  Some added weight, and the lack of part commonality with every other AR15 in DI, is at least a consideration.

The piston vs DI argument over reliability is one that you will never convince me of.  You asked for opinions, I gave them.  Go DI.

Good luck with your rifle

Thanks for the sight suggestions. I'll check all of those out. I don't know anything about quality sights haha.

I guess I'll go with the aero bcg and then the barrel is still my only hang up. Since I mostly use a mag well grip I think I'll go lightweight keeping a .750 gas block.

Spend a little more for an ALG or Geissele trigger group.  You will not be disappointed.

Ditch the piston kit.

Just flip a coin on the barrel weight.  After all, you will be building a second rifle.

I finally did a simple, pencil barrel low-buck build after shooting one a friend bought.  They are a lot of fun and don't weigh much.

I'll proly stick with a stock trigger polished up and jp springs for now. I'll be building an SBR .45 AR most likely and then going up to a nice AR 308.

I think I'm going to go with a lightweight stainless barrel and the aero polished bcg since I like to use the mag well grip and you guys seem to think I won't be building enough heat to hurt it  thanks for all the help.
