Hey,
I think I have a stuck roll pin. I was trying to switch out the forward assist on my upper and the pin won't move at all. I am using a 3/32nd wheeler punch. It's a brand new unshot upper.

put a few drops of oil in there and let it sit, then try.

Well here is what I do. Place the upper in your vise block (clamshell). Then depress the forward assist and hold depressed with duct tape to release any tension on the forward assist spring. By the way, I do this step when installing, also. You should then be able to punch out the pin with a 3/32" roll pin punch. If it won't punch out in one direction, turn it over and try the other direction.

That's what I do, as well. The first few uppers I did not do that, and that pin is a B*TCH to get in. Taping the FA forward DEFINITELY made a huge difference (some roll pins are still a nightmare, though, but still easier without the FA resistance).

use starter punch's to drive them out.

This high quality hardened steel 7 piece punch set is designed to easily remove roll pins from firearms. Balled tip helps locate the punch on the pin and protects pin ends from damage during removal or installation

Thanks everyone for the quick responses.  I'll purchase some of those starter punches and give those a try.

check the sizes!!

my starter punch set didn't have one small enough to fit the holes of the smallest roll pins on my rifle.

Using tape or an extra set of hands to hold in the forward assist really does help.  I'd try that before ordering the punches, or at least try it while they are in transit and use them next time.  I think you'll be able to knock the pin out.
