Hello, first post in this forum. I'm planning another AR build in 6.5X6.8.
I built an ultra light AR in 5.56 last year while recuperating from a knee replacement. My goal there was weight reduction because a PVS-4 night scope was going to be mounted it for coyote hunting. Last year's build was with a Double Star lower that I had for several years. An Anderson Arms upper with out forward assist, to keep the weight down. A VooDoo 16 inch ultra light barrel, 1:7 twist, low profile gas block - .625 dia. A DPMS flash hider with ports on just one side position to the down side for the night vision scope. A AP carbon FF Forearm and API collapsible stock. Jard adj. 1.5 # trigger. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Total weight was 5.25 pounds and it shot sub MOA groups at night time. Now to my planned 6.5X6.8 build, this will be for deer hunting and long distance target shooting. My gunsmith is getting me a deal on a DPMS lower. Again I will be using an Anderson Arms upper with out forward assist, Anderson Arms 6.8 BCG, and AA lower build kit with out fire control or grip. I was happy with the last AA upper and they are on sale for $49.95. I have ordered a Black Hole Weaponry 20" mid-weight barrel, mid-length gas block barrel, 1:8 twist, no flash hider in 6.5X6.8 chamber. Again I will be using a carbon fiber FF forearm and Jard trigger. Collapsible stock will be a OD Magpul with a DPMS buffer tube and 4.6 oz buffer for the 6.5X6.8 round. OD Hogue grip. I've done several rifles with Dura Coat and I'm thinking of doing the upper and lower receiver and buffer tube in OD Dura Coat to match the stock and grip. Trigger, safety, mag and bolt release, and pins will remain in blue. Question to those more experienced AR builders. Will the 4.6 oz buffer be sufficient for the 6.5X6.8 round. Also, does anyone have load data for this round. I know I can use 6.5 Grendel load data as starting data. |

Use the standard buffer/spring set up for your carbine or full stock. Perfectly adequate for your needs. You'll find the cartidge really delivers. The Nosler 123's are outstanding for use in it. Super essy to make brass for. Contact me if you have any questions since I helped develop this one for Black Hole.
There's load data up the whazoo to get you going Greg |
