Slip ring pliers are the proper tool to remove the slip ring holding the Delta assembly onto the barrel. If you don't have one you may have to improvise.

Dremel cut off wheel and nerves of Steel. That is only if you are not removing your Gas Block. If no gas block then snap ring pliers. U can use two small punches to spread the snap ring if u have no snap ring pliers

Skip to 2:25 if you don't want to hear the whole thing.

Just unscrew the whole assembly and slide it off over the barrel.  No need to cut anything

I use a cut off wheel to get through the d-ring and weld spring. Careful not to cut into the barrel nut.

When you remove the barrel from the upper, you'll see a snap ring on the back of the barrel nut/delta ring assembly - that's what holds the delta ring on.  A pair of snap ring pliers, or fine tipped needle-nose pliers will let you remove the ring and then the delta ring and weld spring.

Cutting off a delta ring with a Dremel is possible, but I don't like the risks involved.  Every time I've needed to remove a delta ring, I've removed the barrel first.

If you're putting on a KMR, it has a proprietary barrel nut so you'll need to remove the standard barrel nut any way. remove barrel nut with proper barrel nut wrench, vice, and upper receiver block/clam shell/reaction rod etc...

If it's a factory assembled bcm upper that needs the barrel nut removed, good luck. I swear they tighten their barrel nuts to 150 ft/lbs.

This right here. Don't cut anything, it all comes off as an assembly and will not be going back on.
