...or a good home made substitute. Putting the gas tube roll pin in is a bitch when the barrel isn't laying flat against something.

Also, is it possible to install the dust cover without taking the barrel off? In my excitement to complete my 12.5" upper I installed the barrel, gas block, and gas tube and realized I still hadn't installed the ejection port cover. Do I start over?

For the gas block if you are talking the basic low pro, I just took a block of wood and a one inch drum sander and made a valley for the gas block to sit in.  I usually put the gas tube in the block before putting it on the rifle.

Another option people have been talking about is a plastic moldable product that comes in beads.  I am sure someone will chime in with the details.

As for the dust cover it can be done by going in from the back ear but you will need to arch the rod a bit to clear the forward assist.  I few layers of tape on that area may be helpful too.

ETA:  If you do not have a 1" drum sander you and use a 1" drill bit and drill thru a block of wood and then cut thru the block with a saw.  If you don't have either of those than you need more tools...haha.

I bought a cheap knockoff brand vice block and magwell block from a friend that imports them. It was $10 total. Works great.

If you like the way they look, buy an "Ultimate Dust Cover" from Strike Industries. They install much easier than the standard dust cover(and no need to remove barrel).

Well I got the little bastard on without removing the barrel. Of course I had already lost the retaining clip, but thankfully I had another I could use.
