I have a Colt LE6290 which I am trying to upgrade the hand-guard to a free-float DD free-float quad-rail.
It's been a whole day trying to remove that barrel nut.
Does anyone know if the Colt barrel nut has loctite applied in the factory?

The upper receiver is clammed on a vice sandwiched by a AR-receiver-block and I am using the standard AR multi-tool wrench.
I tried soaking the nut with Kroil and it is still not budging.

Should I apply some heat on the nut?

Any tips?

Colt doesn't use threadlocker.  But you can sometimes find that any barrel nut is VERY hard to get started moving.  Heating the nut is a good start.  Remember that you're not trying to weld the thing, just heat it up enough for the nut to expand a little.  And that multitool wrench needs a breaker bar on it - you need plenty of leverage to remove the barrel nut.  And maybe a cheater on the end of the breaker bar, too.  Seriously, the torque applied when the nut is installed has almost nothing to do with how hard it sticks when you try to take it off.  So heat up the nut, use a LONG lever on the end of your wrench, and keep the upper rock solid.  It will take some sweat, but you'll get it off.
