| hey guys pretty new to ar-15s, ive been shooting them since I was a kid (not too long ago) and I already have an s&w mp15 sport (that I love). im looking into building one now. ive been looking into spikes, psa, primary arms and a few other companies. I want to build a decent priced gun. im not doing it to save money and im not that picky about anything, I just simply want to do it for the fun of it. im just asking if the companies ive listed are good, and any input is appreciated since I am really new to this. also if I buy a stripped upper does the barrel need to be installed by a gunsmith or can I fully build the gun myself? thanks guys. |

They are all decent companies and you don't need a gunsmith to install a barrel. You DO need a bench vice and a barrel nut wrench. There are a few other tools you'll need, but they don't break the bank or the budget.
One of the great things about AR's is that so many parts from so many different companies will work together fine. I say go for it! That's what i did to have my very first AR and I'm glad i did it too. Sure, I made a couple small mistakes and they were easily corrected. I learned a LOT. I love my first rifle and now I've started a 2nd one. Be forwarned though - building them can become addictive :) |
