Well after buying my AR I guess I've become addicted. I currently have a DPMS Recon that I've done some basic upgrades to but I'm looking to build my own gun from the bottom.

I have a PSA lower, and just ordered a PSA lower kit with Magpul CTR stock and grip.

What's holding me up is the upper. I'd rather put together my own than buy a complete. My DPMS is a little on the heavy side, setup more for target shooting, and, accuracy I guess you'd say with a Nikon scope and such. I want this build to be light, for quick shooting.

Is there a common barrel people generally lean to? Rail? Reciever? I'm probably going to stick around a 16" barrel, 5.56, and just keep it somewhat simple with a red dot site or something similar.

Any input is greatly appreciated! I've done a lot of reading but it's definitely a lot to consider during this whole process.

Lightweight Parts List

Link above is a thread on lightweight parts with their weights. should give you a good start if you want to build something light.

Thanks I will definitely look into that list.

After looking around a good bit, I am starting to consider purchasing a complete upper, it seems as though there are quite a few good deals on them. Of course because I'm doing this gun flat dark earth, it's somewhat more limited.
