I found a DPMS lower for cheap a few years back when there was a huge overrun after the first Obama gun scare. Pick it up for $69 and threw it in the safe where it collected dust for about 5 years. Two years ago I picked up an 18", 1:8 twist, Wylde chambered, melonite treated barrel from AR Performance. The barrel also collected dust until this week. I ordered all of the parts to complete the rife and finally got it done. In addition to the lower and barrel, I got a DPMS upper and free float hand guard, a BCM bolt carrier group and collapsible stock, DPMS LPK, YHM gas block/flip up front sight, Mag Pul MBUS rear sight, JE trigger and hammer springs, Burris PEPR mount, and Leupold 2-7 x 33 VX2. I mounted the scope after the pics were taken.
The gun functions flawlessly (42 rounds total so far) but no report yet on accuracy because I was only function checking, not bench shooting. Preliminary accuracy results are promising though. I must say, as a 21 year military retiree, I've had a fee M16 in my hands and the quality of the DPMS components that I used is outstanding. Unless I wanted some non standard features or design deviations like Seekins Precision offers, I see no reason whatsoever to look any further than DPMS for any of my future builds. Anyway, here it is. https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/t1.0-9/p417x417/10593205_716507505065450_5486699723523506684_n.jpg |

Thanks. The bear was taken about 5 years ago with a TC Contender pistol in 35 Remington at a distance of about 25 yards.
Thanks for the complements on the AR too. One thing though, what do you mean by Legos? If you mean accessories, I only have a Safariland rail light. It's mounted on the left side. I don't like a lot of stuff or excess weight hanging off of my guns. This one weight exactly 9 pounds, 8 ounces with an empty magazine. I'm already trying to figure out how I can shave some weight without compromising accuracy or function in any way. I did the 50 cent trigger job on it today and polished up the engagement surfaces with Flitz and the trigger breaks much more cleanly with a bit less creep and zero grit but it still brakes at about 8 pounds. I'd like to get it down to 5 pounds but I think I would have to change the engagement angles in order to accomplish that and I'm not willing to compromise safety for a better trigger so that idea is out. I'll just shoot it often and see if that doesn't help the trigger out over time. I have some 55 and 60 grain V-Max to load up this weekend so I can see what this thing will do now that I have a scope mounted. I'll report back once I've shot it a bit more. I really need to get some 69gr and 77gr stuff too because that's where I expect this gun to shine. |

Looks good to me. my highest cost item was my MAG Tactical Systems lower receiver with a DPMS lower parts kit. I got it as a package deal from an online auction at the start of the panic for $160. The seller wasn't too happy because the lower receiver alone sells for more than that. But, he did honor the sale.
My other two parts that were the highest cost items were the Pegasus Defense BCG at $106.45 shipped and the Anderson 1:8 twist barrel at $99.82 - the rest was pretty easy and all nine of my 30 round mags ended up being free. I now have another lower receiver that I won from one of the on-line auctions sites. Didn't expect to win it for the bid I made then forgot about. 4 weeks later I got an e-mail saying I had won it. So, for $57.50 with shipping I have a lower receiver to start a 7.62x39 pistol with. My FFL transfers are free. Been working on parts costs this evening - I'm going to try to build it on a $650 budget including 2 ASC 7.62x39 mags. |
