The stuff used in here will be the minimum, if you read through he also says some other things you can use. But you will need SOME tools.

all you are really doing is putting the lower parts kit in.

I did my first one with a roll of tape, vice grips, needle nose pliers and a tack hammer.

Thanks :) that's what I was wondering if I could do it without the punches and stuff.

Thanks also. Lol.

I have a ton of tools. Just not punches and stuff.

I'll be fine.

I've gotten by with minimal tools for my builds. Vice grips, hammer, roll pin punches, mag block, upper clamshell vise block, Tapco Armorer's tool and torque wrench.

You really should consider  roll pin punch for the bolt catch pin.  Just my opinion.

I felt I needed a few basics. I had some tools laying around.  I watched my father in law use a nail punch to install the roll pins. They got pretty buggered up. I did buy roll pin punches. Made it SO much easier and they were perfect installed.

How are you planning on installing the barrel? I use a Pro Mag clamshell upper and lower vise block set. I got the kit on Amazon . It puts no torque on the upper. I also bought the Gem State Armory armorers wrench. You gotta watch their website cause they go in and out of stock quick. $45 bucks and you will never need another one. Small hammers are a dime a dozen.

It just depends on how many you will build and if you want them to come out perfect. Keep a black Sharpie close. It takes care of any dings like magic.

Use whatever tool you think will work. I would say for sure masking tape on lower when you install bolt catch roll pin. Whether you have pin punches or not. You will be so close to the upper that one slip and you will need the Sharpie!

All the roll pins can be done with tape, vice grips and or channel locks. I use a utility razor to hold the pivot pin detent down while installing the pivot pin.

+1 on razor blade trick. U can put the lower in a Big clear plastic bag  and use the razor blade. That way when it does get loose odds are it will be in the bag!

OP, I understand your question and was in the same boat a couple weeks ago. I was going to go with what I had laying around, but bit the bullet and purchased some quality RP starter punches, set of brass and steel punches along with several other tools to make the assembly enjoyable. Probably went overboard, but my first lower went together without a scratch (OCD issues). At the very least I recommend a good set of punches and as others have said, the Gem armorors wrench. If you plan on building more than one, its a good investment. Im on my third lower now since I made the tool purchases a couple weeks ago.
