Hey everyone,

I am in the process of finishing up my first build with the help of this wonderful internet gem. As of yesterday, i have only the barrel to buy and finish the upper install. Due to budget issues and my wife hating my new hobby, I need to find a reliable barrel for a good price. I was looking on the AR15.com store and saw they have barrels for 119$ + shipping right now. I am a little skeptical of the price but i wouldn't think that they would sell crap parts on their website either. i am curious to know if anyone on here has any real life experience with them. i am pretty set on wanting a 16" in .556 with a mid length gas port, 1/8 twist and crome lined. I am also open to suggestions for other barrels as long as they do not exceed over 200$ if possible. I am in no rush of finishing this build so i would not mind waiting for a better deal down the road. Any input would help since like i said, this is my first build. Thanks in advance!

I have not tried the ar15.com barrels but the Green Mountain barrels are an excellent value. I have a 20", 1 in 8, that shoots lights out.

It means that of the people that have looked at the post have no experience with them. I'm in the same boat as you however so I'm going to keep track of this thread in the hopes some knowledge will be dropped. When you do decide to get a barrel please post what barrel you decided to go with and why. It would be much appreciated for some closure on the topic since many of the posts I peruse stop randomly and give no hint to the OPs question being resolved.

I looked into MAS Defense barrels, but the reviews are all over the place with some owners finding their barrel to have bad measurements while other owners report having no problems. If I were you I'd take a look at their website as their barrel prices are pretty competitive. I, like you, am trying to 'budget' build an AR15 so I figure the more time I take on deciding and researching the better chance I have for finding a deal and being satisfied with my purchase.

Good luck in your search and if I pull the trigger on a deal I'll come post here about it.

jay:  I too have one of the GM 20" jobs, mine is also amazingly accurate.  Green Mountain has the 16" middy barrel you want in stock for $150.  Highly recommended. - CW

I'm looking for a barrel without a FBS. I already have a free float rail and lo pro gas block, just need the barrel. You are not making my decision any easier! LOL i guess i will have to see if i can find a good comparison of the two and see which one is best for me. You have me convinced for the extra $, GM may be a better way to go.  Thanks for the feedback.

The ar15.com barrels are GTG, I'm pretty happy with mine!  I would have bought one for my pistol project if they had 7.5" ones

I went thru this a couple of weeks ago. I ended up with a 14.5" Spike's mid with a Dynacomp pinned (have to pin everything in New Jerseystan so why not go 14.5?).

I found nitrided barrels are all the rage now. Aero has both 14.5" and 16" mid-length nitrided barrels for under $200 (and a nice 16" mid SS Wylde for $220). The 14.5" is on sale for $165 now and OOS on the 16" barrels. I still might pick one up at that price.

Just purchased the 14.5" mid from Aero yesterday.  Coupon code for fathers day makes it $149 shipped.  DOA arms has the carbine length 16" version for $169 with free shipping.

Damn, might have to just order one for a future build. What's the code?

They have the carbine 16" in stock but the OP was asking for mid-length which is OOS. I should've been more clear.
