I have a pattern of not being able to read things very well.  Ordered a 14" Fortis Rev for a 14.5 barrel, muzzle device is still in the works but I'm really keen on a Griffin M4SD II Flash Comp.

My problem is the Fortis 14 is really a Fortis 14.8, so closer to 15 than anything, The M4SD II will stick out only enough to make it 16" overall 1.35" to be precise, leaving .6 over the threading, so I will have a small portion hidden in the rail (.3") , which seems to be a bad idea, but could work?

Currently I have a myriad of solutions;

1) Return the 14 for a 12 (which is close to 13) keep the barrel go about my merry way.
2) Return the 14.5 barrel for a 16, keep the rail (I really don't want a close to 18" barrel once the flash comp is installed. So this is the last option I'll entertain.
3) Keep the rail, get an AAC Blackout or Surfire MB whatever instead of flash comp (think back to all the great pics stickman has done with the fortis rail, 14.5 barrel, and one of these devices.
My problem with 3 is I don't want the surfire break, cost mostly and i like the recoil of a 5.56, the Blackout doesn't bother me, but I'd rather have the flash comp than a flash hider.

Now the holy grail idea that could lead to trouble, but I kinda like it.

14.5 barrel, 14.8 Fortis Rail, Griffin Flash Comp AND modify the rail!  Now start thinking Warsport LVOA - There is a cut out on the side, rail over the top and bottom, and a battle comp is used, not much different than my thinking. The only difference is the LVOA is solid material around where the battle comp is and extending back a little bit.  I'm thinking I could remove the front portion of the Fortis Rev and mill down the picatinny rails on both sides to match up with the rest of the rail (if I want a picatinny rail section I can instal a modular one).

Without pics this is worthless so here you go.  I really think it could work, a lot of extra work that could be solved with a the shorter rail, but this could be pretty bitchen. Gunsmiths, experts and keyboard commandos what say you?

You might be ok, but that is too close for me to like it.  You will be fine if you run something like the Noveske Pig.

thanks AlabamaPaul - had to do some picture posting reading!

I'm not in love with the KX3 or the KX5 (which would fit in the Fortis rail) I've got a pig on my ar pistol and it might be on the chopping block
