I finished this build this week. I am still waiting on my scope to arrive. A Leupold  VX-3 8.5-25x50mm (30mm) Side Focus Target $737 (Dealer Direct price)

Anyway it's a DPMS lower my father had purchased last year when things became crazy.
A2 Stock, Buffer, tube and spring a friend traded me for a commercial carbine tube and sliding stock.
CMMG lower parts kit my father purchased for the lower.
So far no money spent....

So.. I decided with these parts laying around I should take a crack at building a rifle.

I added a Magpul M.A.I..D grip I had laying around. I purchased and then replaced it on my S&W MP15 a while back (why I can't remember)
I purchased the following from local shop Matt's Shooting Supply:
Black Rain 18" Fluted Bull barrel, gas tube and gas block for $509.00 tax and shipping included. (It's so sweet)
Yankee Hill upper for $80 and added an unknown Ejection port dust cover and Forward assist for around $25.00.
Magpul MBUS Pro front and back $162.00
Magpul B.A.D. Lever $24.99
Then I ordered the following from Amazon:
Spike's M16 Bolt Carrier Group for $145.49 +S&H $8.79 = $154.28
Yankee Hill Machine Diamond Free Float Hand guard, Rifle Length for 193.99 + 7.49 S&H = $201.48(Overpaid a little here)
Magpul Alum Enhanced Trigger Guard, Black $16.54 (Amazon Prime NO Shipping!)
Bcm Charging Hndl 5.56Mm/223 Mod3 $48.49 (Amazon Prime NO Shipping!)

So I have about $1196.78 in it.
.......but the scope cost around $700.00 (Which is awesome considering the retail is around $1400) I'll post a pic of it after I add the scope and mount Burrins AR-PEPR
Why a 8-25x you may ask? Why killing varmints dear sir. I'll put it on with a Burris qd one piece mount for quick removal.

I'll probably add a Magpul PRS stock and a trigger upgrade possibly an American Trigger Corp. AR-Gold trigger or aTimney AR-15 Competition Trigger someday.

Comments, criticism and suggestions welcome.

Nice I like it.

That looks like a t driver for sure.....I see sub 1 MOA in your future!

One note on the trigger, I run ALG ACT triggers and JP yellow springs on both my rigs and they are killer.  Total is around $75, install takes five minutes.

Thanks for the trigger info. I'll look at them. I was leaning towards the Timney for three reasons:
1. A friend of mine has one I like in his AR,
2. There is one in stock at the local shop
3. I have used them in Remington 700 builds in the past and liked them. (Although it's a completely different beast.... bolt compared to AR action)

Nice work. I like how you used the A2 Stock

Definitely going to want to break that barrel in properly.

Shoot one, clean, shoot one, clean, etc. What is it, clean, then clean after every shot for the first ten, then after each five for the next... 25rds? Then after every 50 or something for another 150rds?

Idk, I think that's Armalites recommended method. I know a couple people that use that over any others.

You can only break it in properly once, and you only have to do it once. Even if people debate how much it helps, I do it.

Nice build though. I'll have to reread your original list, but I hope you have a more match style trigger! You'll need it to really use that barrel. Also glad you didn't skimp on optics since you need decent glass to really justify the barrel.

What trigger? I hope not a standard CMMG parts kit trigger. I guess you're not done yet.

Thanks for tip on Barrel. I grew up around Bench Rest shooting, breaking a barrel in is essential.

I am defiantly going to upgrade the Trigger in the next week or so. I just haven't decided on the one I want yet.

I upgraded by bolt carrier and stock today. I installed a AR15 NiB-X Bolt & Carrier Group w/Hammer by WMD. I replaced the A2 stock with the Magpul PRS. I'll post some updated pictures soon. Hopefully my scope will be in next week.

Is your ejection port rod in backwards? Looks like it protrudes to the rear too much. Isn't it supposed to protrude forward so the barrel nut "captures" it?
The groove in the rod with the c-clip goes in front of the ejection port to keep the rod from moving rearward. The barrel nut keeps it from creeping out foreward.
Sorry, but you asked for "comments, criticisms, suggestions".

LOL don't be sorry I asked because it is truly the first AR I ever built from scratch. It is in backwards. Thanks for pointing it out. As soon as my scope arrives this week I'll post an updated photo that includes the Stock and bolt carrier group upgrades I installed yesterday.

Another point of concern on this thread, the usage of the laughable trigger group included with the CMMG lower parts kit, will be addressed soon as well. I decided on the American Trigger Corp. AR-Gold trigger group. Anyone have any first hand experience with one?
