I'm going to put together a new upper. I've ordered a 16" Daniel Defense government profile barrel, Spikes upper receiver, and a Midwest Insustries Gen 2 SS Free Flloat hand guard. Does anyone know, if the Daniel Defense clamp on gas block will fit under this handguard? If not, what gas block would you recommend?

JD: The MI SS gen 2 handguard is about the smallest made. Inside dimensions are barely 1.3". SFAIK, the only low pro gas blocks that will fit inside are the set screw variety. When installing the new GB, be sure to measure the distance from the barrel port to the lower end of the journal the GB fits on. A govt profile barrel may be set up to allow room for the GI handguard cap sandwiched between the GB and the end of its journal. If so, you will want to set the lo pro GB forward of that end point by a small amount to get the two ports lined up properly. Some simple measurements with a good caliper and eyeball positioning should do the trick nicely.

That MI handguard is a nice piece of kit. The small size feels good in the hand. Lining up the notches in the barrel nut while getting a reasonable amount of torque is a bit of a chore, but the end result is very satisfactory. FWIW, as pictured below, I prefer to wrap my handguards with 2mm black perlon cord, so my hands don't contact the bare metal. good luck - CW

The Vltor low profile clamp on gas block should work as I'm using one under a SLR Solo hand guard with a 1.3" ID...

Yo, Alabama. I have both types of handguards, with a Vltor clamp on gas block inside my Solo 3-gun model, same as you. The MI SS gen 2 is slightly smaller inside and out than the Solo tube. I don't believe any of the usual clamp ons will fit in there without binding. - CW
