I'm running a 7" barrel and a MI carbine rail. I have just mocked parts up, don't have a barrel nut yet and it seems like the tip of the threaded muzzle is maybe 1/4" shorter than the rail. I'm going to use a yhm 5c1 flash hider, will the ports of the yhm keep the blaster further out from the rail? Does the opening of the muzzle have a gap before the ports on the yhm start to open? If that makes sense.

On a rail/barrel combination that short, I would use a flash can or some type of linear compensator to direct the blast forward...

I'm doing another pistol build with higher end parts, including a kx3, and wanted to keep this one budget.....maybe I'll do the troy claymore.

Check out kak industries flash can,   I think its 40$ or somewhere close, it is a simple forward blow design and cheap. works very well.

The Kaw Valley linear compensator is a fraction of the price of the KX3/5 muzzle devices...

I got my yhm 5c1 in the mail today and it is about 1/4- 1/2"  past the rail now where the ports first open. I think it should be ok but the Kaw valley comp might be a better option after seeing it.
