A little disappointed in the fit between the spikes billet lower and billet upper , anyone have any experience with the accuwedge?

I've used accuwedges on all my personal ARs and my mil issued weapon during time of service. They work fairly well, never perfect. There will always be a little play between the upper and lower even with a wedge, at least for my experience. I have read some of the aftermarket take down pins IE Noveske, KNS, BAD etc help stiffen the mating of the upper and lower as well.

That surprises me, not sure why. Maybe I thought billet was built to closer tolerances and I was wrong?

I just built an SPRish upper on a DD receiver and it mates perfectly with my factory LMT  lower with no play. I was lucky I guess.

Your "problem" really shouldn't affect function, although that looks like a rig for precision and the slop might be annoying. An Accuwedge should take out the play.

How much does that bad boy weigh as it sits?

Agreed, I realize the AR15 platform is inherently going to have some slop, guess I just figured for the $500 plus price tag for the upper and lower receiver it would be better than the forged receivers I've used in previous builds.  Don't have a exact weight but she's definitely a little on the chubby side.

Aero Precision Upper and lowers are the tightest fit I've seen so far.
Also I have AP lower and Vltor MUR upper and it's very tight as well!!

Yep no matter who the manufacturer is you still have to have the upper matched to the lower, otherwise fitment is a crap shoot.  When I bought my lower I had two uppers matched to it, but my lower came with a tensioning screw adjustment on top of being matched, so mine are rock solid.

It is possible to have the screw added, I'm sure a smith could do it fairly easily.  The adjustment screw is inside the grip, runs straight up into the bottom of the upper where the takedown pin passes through at the back of the upper.  just have that drilled and tapped and install an allen screw that will fit within the hole, and adjust it up until you are happy.  Just have to remember though that the tighter you make it the more difficult it is to get the takedown pin out, so you have to find that point where your ok on all points.

Here's an example for inspiration...

Ultimately the accuwedge will do what you need it to, but the tensioning screw is a more elegant solution.

The accuwedge actually wouldn't fit in my Spikes lower and CIV upper. I started to work on trimming the bottom of the wedge but I never finished and haven't messed with it in a while.

I have an accuwedge in one of my three. It's in my Spike's lower and I had to basically trim nearly half the thickness off to get it to fit in and mate the lower to the upper.

I guess I just got lucky, I can mix and match all six of mine and they fit nice and tight

In any case that thing looks sweet!
