I am nearing completion that I have been working on since I was 17. The thought of the very first round through the thing both excites me and worries me.

So tell me, how did you feel about the first shot of your build and how excited were you when it fired and ejected perfectly fine? Or maybe you just took it to someone to fire for you, but if you actually just held your breath and pulled the trigger, do you remember what that was like?

I'm just hoping everything functions flawlessly and I have a good day at the range

I was fairly confident everything was put together well, but was still worried as I didn't check the headspace. I shot it at an indoor range and asked to be put in the end stall away from everyone. Everything functioned flawlessly, but I know exactly what you mean. When it worked the very first shot it was also my first time shooting an AR. So I was screaming pretty loud at how awesome it was. A lot.

Wear safety glasses at first just in case

Haha I would scream too, but my local indoor usually has quite some people. I am planning on going mid day some day to make sure I can get one with lanes open on each side just in case. I know I really don't have much to worry about, but that first shot always seems like it'll make or break all that hard work.

I'm probably getting worked up for nothing, but honestly I know if anything goes wrong it'll be the gas block, which I could just readjust or replace.

It'll also be my first time shooting an AR. So I know the tension will be a lot more than normal haha.

Well yesterday when I built my 9mm AR, I was worried it would be a dunce.. But besides a minor kaboom around the 180 mark it was flawless. Shot another 150 through it today even.

You should be wearing safety glasses every time you go to the range.

I was pretty excited, unfortunately it was short stroking right off the bat, after looking everything over I pulled the BCM gas tube and found metal shavings from the machining at the factory in it... Works great now though!

The first time I shot my first pistol reloads, I wore leather gloves, my carhart jacket, safety glasses, and ear plugs.  I'd been reloading rifle for 15+ years, but this was my first attempt at pistol.

You'll be fine.  When you chamber that first round, just make sure the bolt is fully forward before you touch off that first round.
