I was thinking of getting a Noveske Switchblock, but finally shot my first silencer this week and realized, with 5.56 from a DI AR15, there's probably no point to having an "off" position. Would you all agree?
What's a gas block alternative which can be easily changed for suppressed/non-suppressed use and also has more options for rails without machining them to fit? ETA: This is going on a mid-length gas system. |

Why are you saying there is no point in having an gas-off switch on a suppressed semi-automatic rifle? There is a big difference in the sound if you turn the gas off. At least in the rifle I shot, the sound of the brass bouncing on the ground seemed louder than the bolt cycling. At the shooter it may seem like a difference, but at 10 yards away, I doubt it's very noticeable. Is that not your experience? |

The DA7 doesn't have multiple settings, so it's certainly not an option. It's similar to the Syrac block I already have on another rifle. I like how it keeps the setting steady, but I don't like how far apart the clicks are. Those aren't great for a 3gun rifle where you want it precision tuned, or for switching between suppressed and unsuppressed on the fly, but they're okay for a plinker rig.
The Govnah seems like a nice option. I could have a plate custom tuned and even with 3 positions, including "off". That should fit under any handguard. The Switchblock may have just taken the backseat. However, I do like how the Switchblock is a clamp-on style instead of set-screw. Hmmm... |

The DA7 has 15 clicks (15 settings including off). Not sure where you're getting your info. With the multiple settings, you can tune it to your load making it perfect for 3 gun |

With the multiple settings, you can tune it to your load making it perfect for 3 gun By "multiple settings", I meant presets. I don't consider remembering how many clicks and using a wrench to be adjusting to presets. That's simply changing the setting. Kind of like a car radio; a preset takes you directly where you want, while turning the dial takes you through multiple settings to change the single setting. Clicks vs screw is like digital vs analog. 15 settings will never be better than infinite settings for tuning ability. I prefer fine tuning for competition guns which can be serviced as needed vs a combat rifle which just needs to work when you tell it. If you want to talk about practicality or reliability, that's a different story in which case the DA7 may fit the bill better. YMMV Either way, the DA7 is not a quick-adjust option like a Switchblock or Govnah, so it's just not an option for this rifle. |
