T6*
I think you'll find that most of those heat treats will be T651, T65x and so on.  You'll probably spend more than with a 80% unless you already own the mills and a way to machine the buffer tube thd.

McMaster Carr has 7075 aluminum. You need 1 1/2 thick x 4 inch x 8 inch long. They sell it in 1 foot minimum. I would buy some 6061 first to do prototype before using 7075. It is a lot cheaper, and you WILL make some changes. If you plan on doing a bunch of them, you will want to buy it in 12 foot lengths. I just purchased 96 feet and it was $3.54 a pound. 1 foot is 7.27 lbs. McMaster gets  about 50 bucks a foot for 6061 and around 110 bucks for a foot of 7075. You really get ripped when you but small cut pieces. Craig

McMaster Carr is where you want to go I have bought a fair amount from them for various projects, the company I worked used to get a discount since they ordered so much from them so I would usually go through the company, sadly I no longer work there.

not sure how they deal with shipping.
in some cases, I found it is cheaper to find a local metal shop. especially for a small project.
metal market or something like that, where they can sell you small amounts without the shipping overhead.

If you have a local metal shop and price is a concern for you, go to the shop and look through their remnants. They often sell remnants/cut-offs for pennies on the dollar. Great way to get materials for small one-off projects.

Just about every town or city has a some form of metals outlet, be it a metals supplier or metals recycle yard. McMaster is a horrible place to go if you are seeking good prices. Use Google, or your local yellow pages phone book to see if you have a metals supplier in or around your location.

A block of 6061-T6 Aluminum 1.5" x 4.0" x 8.0" shouldn't cost you more than $21.00

Try the scrap yards too. Most sell second hand metal for just over the scrap rate. You are more likely to find 6061 than 7075, but the only real difference is in corrosion resistance. I get my aluminum from my scrap yard for $0.60 per pound
