I just completed building my first lower receiver. I am using a NatMil lower with a CMMG LPK. Everything went together pretty well but the bolt catch seems very stiff to me. I have no clue how stiff it is supposed to be. I have to put a good amount of force to move the bolt catch between positions. Also, when I put an empty magazine in the bolt catch does not move. I am by no means an expert at this stuff, but shouldn't the bolt catch shift up when an empty magazine is put in?
Has anyone else had this problem? Advice on how to solve? |

Too stiff. The bolt catch should move freely under spring tension.
eta: could be anodizing that's just a little to thick. Remove the catch and slip it between the ears of the lower without the roll pin. Should fit between with no resistance. If not, take a light file to it. Not the lower. |

Do you have the hammer forward? It drags against the bolt catch (of a separated lower) and makes it stiff.
When driving the pin in, you can trap the bolt catch/release against the pin and cause it not to move, or move stiffly. But if you drove the pin through the catch/release and into the other side of the receiver, it should move freely. You are pressing the bottom portion, right? The part that sits on the spring and detent. |
