I own a G23 and a Para 1911, feeling like its time to move up to a rifle
Thing is I am on a budget since I am attending school for at least another year. I have around $700 to play with. Would it be cheaper to build an AR or buy one off the rack? I know its not much, so I know it's limited. Another option is to wait till I graduate and buy a G19 Nickel Boron Coated now and not have much of a budget since I will have a full time job and making much more money and buy a killer AR or build one. Since I shoot rifles with my left, would it cost more to buy one for a lefty or same question on building one. In addition, I have never really messed with an AR, Any tips y'all can send my way. Thanks! |

Right now you can build a damn fine M4 style rifle for that budget and can buy a couple factory rifles IE: Spikes, PSA for a about a hundred more so the world is your oyster my friend start reading and have at it!! Look at the Anderson lowers they have for $50 at PSA it's a damn nice lower for the money and a perfect start for a new builder.......best of luck

That looks extremely tempting |
| if your looking for cheap its pretty hard to beat S&W M&P 15 |

but that doesn't have the thing to push in the ammo (forgot the name of it) the one you push with your finger |

1st things first is start reading. Everything you need to know is on this Forum. AR15 info as well as AK47. Just start poking around on here. Read and get on you tube read some more. I have learned everything from AR15.com. PSA(Palmetto State Armory) has incredible prices when on sale. I went with the PSA blemished Upper 35 bucks. Not a scratch or ding on it. You can get full kits with Charging handle Premium Auto Bolt Carried, pistol grip collapsible stock for less than 250 on sale. Just start looking around. It’s really simple. Every question you have ever had is on here, Join up and start searching.
PS my build is just a tad over 650 with Magpull parts and 16" barrel and the like. Now I just gotta wait for my barrel. |

Hard to beat that for a complete lower. |
| Build for sure. You will know the rifle inside and out (very good to know for troubleshooting), you get to pick every part you want instead of buying a rifle then buying upgrades later (spend less in long run) and since you have handguns there's no immediate rush to have it for home defense........if you build it they will come....lol |

I would get a m&p sport. You don't need forward assist. It is extremely rare to use it. Most never will use in their lifetime. Dust covers only stays closed when not firing. If your on patrol in Afghanistan I would want.
You would be better getting a built rifle. Once you know more about platform then build a custom one. I have changed a bunch of stuff and wasted money jumping in too quickly It is great to understand a rifle but I'd don't think building ar15s for around 700 are a good idea. Especially since you will have a couple hundred in tool...maybe less If your budget was more I'd be more inclined to recommend building one. |
