Probably just made my first of many noob mistakes with my first build.  I know someone with experience who is going to help my assemble my rifle.  I wanted to check my parts out before hand to make sure everything is as expected.

I had the barrel inserted into the stripped upper.  No barrel nut installed.  I slid the bcg in with no charging handle.  I pushed (not hit) the forward assist and is slide the bcg forward maybe 1/2 inch.

Now my bcg and barrel are locked together.  I didn't even think about how these two interface with each other.  Teach me before I mess up something.  How do I get them apart?  Hopefully this wasn't as stupid of a mistake as it feels like.

Push the BCG out with something from the underside, like a plastic fork. The bolt will rotate and release itself from the locking lugs.

you might also try pushing a wooden dowel through the gas tube hole on the front of the upper.

means your gas rings are working properly b/c your bolt won't pull out/rotate easily. you'll just have to use something to pull it out from the back end. try sticking a finger in the back of the bcg and hooking it out. depends on your finger size. if you've got big sausage fingers you may get one stuck

stuck my pinky finger in the bcg and it pulled right out.  i was holding the barrel earlier and think i had too much pressure on it.  thanks folks.  can't wait to get it built.  will definitely post pics when done.  sure it will look standard but it is going to be bad A to me.
