I have a 16 inch PSA CL upper with a carbine length gas system. What is the ideal, or most cost effective, buffer kit I should install. I'm assuming I need a carbine length system. This is the first rifle I have built piecemeal, not just buying a kit minus receiver.

Well, it depends. If you will be running an adjustable stock, then you will have to use a carbine length receiver extension(buffer tube), as well as a carbine buffer and spring. Now, when it comes to selecting the buffer itself, you will have a choice of different weights if you are using a carbine/adjustable stock set up. They will be listed as Carbine, H, H2, H3, as well as a few other combinations. Now, in theory, you will want the heaviest buffer that your gun will reliably cycle with. I personally put H(heavy) buffers in most of my 16" carbine gassed weapons that I will be shooting 5.56 milspec ammo in, as it usually winds up being the best all around buffer for the job. If however you are going to be shooting a bunch of under powered steel cased ammo and the like, you might want to stick with a standard "Carbine" weight buffer. Should you decide to put a full length non-adjustable A2 style stock, then you would of course need a rifle length receiver extension, as well as rifle spring and rifle buffer that will come in one standard weight.
