Hi,
I want to eventually build one or more AR type rifles. I bought the Lenny Magilll/Jim Van Middlesworth video on Amazon. In order to get free shipping, I needed to add something that cost $15 dollars. This tool was exactly enough so I bought it. However, I have not seen any mention anywhere of anybody actually needing the tool. If I return it to Amazon, I'll have to pay $5 bucks for shipping. So my question is, is this tool worth $10 dollars, assuming I build a number of ARs from scratch, or should I just get the $10 bucks back?
Thanks.

Depends on what type of handguards you'll be using.  A lot of them do not use the delta ring.

Not necessary, but it sure makes it a lot easier.

Well, assuming then one or more will use a delta ring.

I, for one, don't have little girly hands, so I've never needed one.  Some can be stubborn if the guards are tight and have very little taper on the end bosses, and I could see the tool saving you some skin if you had to work on them day in and day out, but I've never had a use for a special delta ring tool...

For the cost, it is worth having.  If you plan on installing it and never having a reason to remove the handgaurd, then you will be fine without it.  If you plan on trying different handgaurds, it does make it easier.

I've never needed one, but for $10 and the hassle of returning it I would just keep it.

You'll probably only ever use it once to remove your handguards. After that it'll be free float only.

Thanks for the replies. I guess for $10 bucks I'll go ahead and keep it.

I wasted $15 on mine. Granted I weight lift, but separate the rifle into an upper. Put the rear of the upper on your thigh. Point the barrel in a safe direction and pull down on the ring. Problem solved.

I think it's well worth the $.  Sometimes that Delta ring can be brutal for us mere mortals.
