Had a hard time installing the front take down pin.

Actually had to tap it in.

Without the upper installed the pin works perfectly.
When I put the upper on the lower that's when it won't go in or out.

Have to tap it in And tap it out.

Is this common?

Unfortunately I don't have a spare pin to try.

Help?

Pretty common ITC, just lube it and as you use it, it will break in. Some people lightly sand the inside of the takedown holes on the upper, but I've found that it breaks in eventually on all of them.

Bingo. I've only seen a Colt and Stag fit right from the get go. My Mega and AR57, was a pain.

I've got a PSA lower / J&T upper that fit perfectly as well as an Anderson set.
Had no issues with either fitting any parts.
Pins pop with finger pressure. Note: both were J&T LPKs.

That being said I got a garbage LPK with the receiver set off gun broker. Pivot pin was out of spec. (as well as other problems)

Push the pivot pin in with the weapon shotgunned, so no pressure on the pivot point.
There is such a thing as too tight, but usually it will wear in.
A little moly grease (assmb lube) or spray moly will probably help.

Some stiffness is normal in a new build - lube it and it'll smooth out over time.

Nomenclature:  "takedown pin" is the rear pin, the front pin is the "pivot pin"
