I am a total noob about ARs but i really like to build one. I have shoot my father's that he has built and fell in love with it. So i would like to make my own the only thing is that there are a hundred lowers, uppers, barrels, triggers, and rails. I need some pointers to set me in the right direction to pick the right parts. i would like to build it just for basic shooting chambered in 5.56 nato with a 16 inch barrel.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

What's your budget?
Are you right handed?
Barrel profile. (Heavy, Lightweight, M4. Gov't or Dissipator)
Features: Regardless of left or right hand, do you want ambi controls?  Mil-spec trigger or 2-stage or....? Are you going to want to add on accessories requiring a rail? (Light, vertical grip, etc) What sights? (Fixed A2 carry handle, standard fixed post front with detachable carry handle, BUIS w/ or w/o scope or red dot) Are you satisfied with standard furniture or do you like SOPMOD, Magpul,VLTOR, Rogers, etc?

When do you plan on building your second one?

Easiest answer for a basic, but good quality build...

Hit the PSA website for a complete kit, minus lower receiver.
Your local gunstore  probably can hook you up with a lower receiver from the big names. Bravo Company, Colt, Daniel Defense,  Lewis Machine and Tool, etc.

Look over the many posts here dealing with this issue. Set a budget on what will get you started into good quality parts, then get to work.
