A buddy of mine at work just got his first AR.  He has no iron sights but wants to get the carry handle and isn't sure which front flip-up sight will be the right height.
When I built mine it already had the A post so I am clueless as to what advice to give. Are the sight-heights universal?
Thanks in advance.

I have Troy Folding BUIS, front and rear, on my Noveske.

Troy sights are good to go and seem to be the standard for LaRue, Noveske and a number of other Tier 1 mfgs. But others are good to go as well such as Knights, Midwest, PRI, etc. Don't bother with A.R.M.S. which are crappy.

The sight height is not universal. Mounting position is critical, hanguard sights on handguards and gasblock sights on gasblocks. And type M4 vs SCAR/HK is important. Most mfgs. will specify end use position and compatible platforms in the item description.

Your friend needs M4/M16/AR15 sight height. If he's mounting it to a 1913 railed gasblock, he needs gasblock height. If a railed handguard, hanguard height.

Hope that helps.

I should qualify that you can use the "HK" style sights, just not the "Micro" which is intended for HK rifles and FN Scars. And that's really only for co-witnessing sights and for getting a good sight picture. Confusing.

I relayed the intel. Thanks guys.

He's not sure which gas block it is but it came on a DPMS factory rifle so maybe a DPMS block?
