What gas block has the lowest profile, expecially on the bottom. I will be putting together another AR this winter and want to use the MI gen2 SS 15" over a 18inch barrel. I was able to see one at a gun shop and it had what I would call a micro gas block but it was touching the freefloat on the bottom of the block. Is there just not enough room to float this narrow handguard.

Troy are lower on the bottom than PRI, YHM, VLTOR, and DD for certain. I have all of these and the TROY is my far the lowest. I think it is lower on the bottom than MI, JP, Syrac, DPMS, just about anyone.
However, I know for certain that the PRI, YHM, VLTOR, DD, MI, and TROY all will fit under the MI Gen 2 SS 15 inch rail if you are using a .750 gas block. I have three of these forends and all of those will fit under it. The PRI,YHM,VLTOR,DD are all just about the same on bottom thickness and the GB I use on my three are all VLTOR, which are pretty darned thick. Just about any set screw low profile will fit but the clamp ons, even the low profile ones, more than likely will not. I pretty darned certain the YHM, DD, and VLTOR clamp on GBs will hit or be so close that I would not trust them not to make contact. |
