Any opinions out there about AR Performance barrels?

I'm very fond of them and the owner's customer service. His 68 barrels are arguably the best out there. What are you interested in?

AR Performance is GTG.

H is the man.  I have one of his 5.56 barrels.  It's superb.

I have an AR Performance barrel and the customer service was great.  It shot fantastic from the first round to current (500 rounds later).

I knew EXACTLY what I wanted:
1) Wylde Chamber
2) 1/8 Twist Rate
3) Mid-Length Gas System
4) Light Weight
5) Melonite treated
6) 5R Rifling
7) .750 barrel width for the gas block.

Currently out of stock...

They offer a solid product and you won't be sorry if it is the configuration you are looking for.  If you can stand the extra weight (less than a pound) their 'SOCOM' profile is in stock.

ARP barrels are worth the wait.  One approach is to keep checking the web site so you can place your order when the barrel you want is back in stock again.  They seem to be made up in lots of 100.  - CW

I have three.  7.62x39, 5.45x39, and 6.8.  All run absolutely flawlessly and the 7.62x39 and 6.8 are very accurate but the 5.45x39 is no better than a 4 MOA shooter, and that on a good day.  The comm-block ammo is no better than an 8 MOA round but the Wolf cuts that in half.  The other two barrels are so accurate that I strongly suspect it is the ammo in the 5.45.  IMO ARP barrels are an extremely good value and well worth the price.  And if you need bolts the ARP Super bolt is the best there is at any price.

There barrels seem very nice, but the fact that you cant use a standard AR15 muzzle device on the ends of there barrels is a no go for me.

I am going through this issue.  I might send it off to get milled down to accept a 1/2x28 device.

Great product though

Their lightweight 5.56 barrel takes a standard muzzle device.  The SOCOM does not..

That is what I did with their SOCOM. I can regularly shoot about 1.5 MOA with it now. Hard to say if it was doing better than that before, since I only shot it a couple times prior to the rethreading. Not really impressive shooting, but it's hard to say if it's me or the barrel.

Thanks for the replies.  I know a guy who knows a guy who builds ARs all the time for law enforcement and sez these are the best.  My son, who spends all his time either at the gun range or on the internet, never heard of them.  I'm a newbie to all this.  I wanna build a gun and take it to the range a half dozen times a year and shoot holes in paper.  No zombie or libtard apocolypse fears, just too old to play with GI Joes.  The 16" SOCOM looked tasty, but I agree the 5/8 thread seems like a nuisance, especially when he is out of stock on his muzzle devices.  What is this swelling thing he talks about?  If I just shoot normal load 55 or 62 grain bullets semi auto with lots of time between shots squinting through the scope, is this something I have ot worry about?

Is there room to resize the muzzle device to 5/8 rather than making the barrel threads smaller?

Not the Griffin m4sd II 556 Comp.  I contacted Griffin to see if they could thread their 556 comp with 5/8x24 threads, but couldn't with the design of their Comp.

I just called AR15 Performance and we talked for about 5 minutes.  Very helpful and nice!  I was told any flash or hybrid will work that has the 5/8x24 threads on the 556 SOCOM and will preform well.  They also sale their on Vortex Comp that has the 5/8x24 threads that are for 556.  They will be available in 2 weeks :)

Some you can, some you cannot.  I had Mark McWillis of TROS take a Phantom .30 cal 5/8 x 24 flash suppressor and re-cut and rebore it to 3/4 x 24 for my .500 Phantom.  So, some you can, others you cannot.  If the 5.56 FS has the two deep cuts on it (for blank firing device?) then most likely you will not be able to enlarge the threads to 5/8 x 24.  I tried that with the Phantom on another build and it could not be done due to the two deep cuts in it.  You just have to take some measurements to find out.

Maybe I got lucky.  My barrel is older.  It has the regular threads and is nitro-carburized.

It's one of the few barrels I've come across that shoots almost to the same POA cold as it does after a few shots.
That being said, If I need more than two shots I'm having a bad day.  It's an amazing barrel.

AR #4 with a conventional 5C1 Phantom on my AR Performance barrel.
1/8 twist, 5R rifling, Wylde chamber, 16" midlength SPR profile.

My ARP barrel lets me shoot sub MOA all day long.  I picked it up back when you could still get the spiral fluted option too.

Why did they stop making the 7.62x39 barrel?  It seems they had the best barrel in this caliber.
