I recently put together my firs AR.
Original Build I've since decided to do a few changes (lessons learned) from the original build. The intent is still for this to be a "beater" gun. A learning platform. I have an off the shelf S&W Magpul. I changed the Anderson Lower for a Blemished PSA lower. Now the stick has a blemished upper and a blemished lower from PSA (they look pretty darn good to me). I also decided to give the UTG Pro slim hanguard a try. Optics Planet had 10% off last weekend and free shipping so why not. The handguard went on easy. I did have to torque down the barrel nut more than the recommended 35 lbs to get it to align properly. It is held on by six screws. All the screws came with blue loctite on them. It also comes with three additional 2 slot rails. Overall, the handguard looks and feels great. Much better than the quad rail I had originally installed and the stick definitely feels lighter. http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa409/Quags1/AR%20Project/IMG_4865_zpsc11761e7.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa409/Quags1/AR%20Project/IMG_4866_zpsa591bbda.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa409/Quags1/AR%20Project/IMG_4867_zpsa37f2e93.jpg The Anderson lower is already matched to an Anderson upper. The folks at Anderson are now offering LEO/MIL discount. I sent them an email and had a response within 20 minutes followed by a phone call to tell me my account was updated to include the 10% discount. Awesome customer service on their part. Plan is to build the Anderson with a nice 18" SS barrel. |

FYI: 35ft lbs isn't "the recommended". it's the minimum. the torque range for the barrel nut is 35-80ft lbs. you did it correct. torque it to 35, then torque it no more than 80 to the next hole. good job tho. |

You are correct. 35 is the minimum. I guess what I meant was that it took considerably more to get the barrel nut to align. I didn't reset the torque wrench so I'm not sure how much it took. I did loosen and tightened the nut a couple of times to get a bit more out of it. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the handguard.
