Hey guys and ladies! First off, I've never built an AR before or even owned an AR before, but I'm not new to guns and have no problems tearing down other guns and am confident I can build an AR. I also want to thank everyone on this site for the amount of information I have gathered on here and have learned quite a bit on the AR platform I'm going to take a lot of pics when I build so everyone can see the progression.

For the build:
Picked up a Spikes Spider stripped lower today---my first piece! Gun shop in town still has 5 of them for $99 ea. may go get another one
Ordered a Rock River Arms lower parts kit
Ordered a Magpul enhanced metal trigger guard

Items to come:
Spikes buffer assembly kit with the T2 buffer---good choice with the heavier buffer?
Stock- Magpul CTR Mil Spec 6 position
For the upper; BCM mid length 16"
BCM Bolt carrier group and gunfighter charging handle
Centurion Arms  C4 Rail system with cutout for the front sight base
Troy or Magpul rear folding sight

Optic will come after I am good with the irons but have been eyeballing a Leupold Mark AR scope for some longer distances

So there it is! Any suggestions or comments are certainly welcome!

Shep, looks like you'll have a nice bag of goodies coming soon!!. The RRA LPK should be gtg. Did you get the 2 stage trigger with that?  Spikes T-2 buffer should work well with the 16" middy. Are you going to use an OEM carbine buffer or opt for an aftermarket?  As for the BUIS I'd say that Troy would be your best bet. The Magpul BUIS is lighter, but some folks have had issues with breakage due to the polymer (and probably excessive abuse as well).  Personally, I'm incredibly hard on most items, so generally opt for durability over weight. I know that oz=lbs=pain, but if I can't hump around an 8 lb AR vs a 7.5 lb AR then something is seriously wrong!  Looks like you've chosen some good components and it should be a nice, solid rifle for ya!  RLTW!!

Should have read "Buffer Spring". LOL

yeah I think I'm going to go with the Troy rear site, I'm a 1911 kind of guy and tend to choose metal over the plastic/polymer when it comes to guns. I'm not exactly sure on the buffer spring, what do you guys think I should use to make it smotth and reliable? I didn't get the 2 stage trigger, and I probably wouldnt notice much of a difference until I've been shooting it a while. Maybe on the next one
