Has anyone used one of these lowers? I was thinking about doing an AR Pistol build. Thanks in advanced.

I have not seen or heard anything on these either but I've been contemplating these for a while.

Just got one. Haven't started "milling" it out yet. I'll report back...

Awesome, thank you very much. Can you post some pictures after you mill it out.

Can anybody out there who has one of these lowers comment on the receiver extension threading? Mine just seems....off. I'm waiting for this weekend to gain access to a tap in order to re-chase the threads on the lower. As it is right now, I've tried 2 different buffer tubes and neither one will start. (They will just begin to start but then are already crooked, so I haven't forced it any further). I emailed EP the other day with no response yet.

So, I got this thing finished. Using a 3/8" end mill, I made a row of holes down the middle of the FCG pocket and cleaned out the rest with a dremel. Really doesn't look too bad. I did note that the buffer tube was difficult to get started straight, but when I got it, it screwed in quite easily. Fits my Bravo flat top upper nicely and seems to function fine. Now I need to put some rounds through it.
I did scratch the outside a little, so I may do another, in order to have an unblemished example.

I've done two of these "EP Lowers" on a small milling machine.

On both of them, I've noticed that the pivot and take-down pin holes seem a little off, and the buffer tube didn't thread in very easily, i.e., it's really tight.

As far as cosmetics are concerned, I don't especially care for the non-uniform appearance; i.e., in some places the plastic looks "smooth" and in other places "rough".

Moreover, as I see it, to finish these receivers properly you need some kind of a jig. Even if you do it with a dremel, you still need a way of holding the piece securely - but without distorting or damaging it - as you remove material.

I used a jig from Tactical Machining - which I had to modify a little bit because of the reinforcement around the buffer tower - but the lower still did not sit in the jig all that well and became slightly distorted when I tightened the vise down.

I think for the relatively high price ($100) they're asking for these, they should include some kind of holding fixture.

Overall I would rate these as maybe 2 or 3 out of 5 stars.

I'm wondering, does anyone have any experience with "James Madison Tactical" 80% lower receivers?

Update to my post above: Still no response from EP, but its a non-issue now. I chased the threads with a tap and after that, buffer tubes threaded fine on both lowers. Re-tapping sure made a lot of plastic shavings though. I certainly would not have wanted to force them on right out of the box. Not a huge fan of these things right now, but I'll finish them and see if I change my mind. I wanted something different after doing a bunch of 80% ar lowers and one 80% 308 lower. I'm thinking aluminum may be worth the extra effort.
